Todd White Profile

Todd B. White, B.A. (Hons), LL.B., Barrister, was senior criminal lawyer in Toronto, Canada. He practiced in the fields of criminal defence, extradition matters, regulatory offences and professional disciplinary law since 1992.

Mr. White articled for Edward L. Greenspan, Q.C. and Marc Rosenberg in 1990. He then practiced law at the firm of Greenspan, Rosenberg and Buhr, becoming a partner in 1998. He continued to practice with the firm (formerly known as Greenspan, White) until he established his own firm in 2012.

For the 9th year in a row, Todd White was voted by his peers as one of the Best Lawyers in Canada, in the area of Criminal Law. He was also selected for inclusion in the publication The Best Lawyers in Canada 2020, in the field of Criminal Defence. Selection to Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive and rigorous peer-review survey comprising more than three million confidential evaluations by top attorneys.

Mr. White was involved in many high profile and complex criminal and Charter of Rights cases in Ontario and across Canada. His practice included defending people charged with criminal offences, including charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Criminal Code of Canada and the Extradition Act; conducting bail hearings and bail reviews; acting in Mutual Legal Assistance (M.L.A.T.) Requests, Securities Act investigations and prosecutions, Income Tax Act investigations and Coroners' Inquests; defending people charged under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Environmental Protection Act; and defending Professional Discipline Complaints before administrative tribunals.

His practice was focused mainly in criminal law at all trial and appellate courts. A substantial portion of his practice was in trials in the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice. Todd's practice covers all aspects of criminal defence including sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and assault cases.

Todd White taught criminal procedure at the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Course and was a guest lecturer in Evidence, Criminal Law and Procedure and Trial Advocacy at Osgoode Hall Law School; University of Toronto Law School and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Toronto. He also participated in many continuing legal education events as a speaker for the Criminal Lawyers Association, The Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has published many articles and papers in the field of Criminal Law.
